Buddhika Pathirana is undoubtedly the most prominent among the emerging young national leaders in the contemporary national politics of Sri Lanka given his charismatic career as a grooming Diplomat and Statesman par excellence in National Level. His entry to the the 7th Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is not an accident, nor cakewalk but a strategic point in his Political pathway. At the General Election held on 08th April 2010, he was elected to Parliament as the Member of Parliament who polled the second highest percentage of votes from the United National Party, the largest political party in the country.

Earlier, at the provincial council

At the elections held in the years 2007 and 2008 for the Executive Committee of the Young Liberals and Democrats of Asia (YLDA) of the Liberal International, he was elected with the highest number of votes for a candidate from the entire Asia. During the period from 2006-2009, he functioned as the national chairman of the Liberal Youth Guilds of Sri Lanka. Buddhika’s knowledge in International Affairs, his travel experiences to over 13 countries and participation in many International workshops contributed immensely to have an iconic International prescience.
He received the award for the Most Outstanding Young Politician of the Year at the JCI-HSBC -TOYP Award Ceremony held in the year 2006.

Buddhika also possesses considerable experience in the field of media having served as a presenter and moderator of political programs at SIRASA TV and TNL television channels for nine years and is a pre-intern medical practitioner at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.

Buddhika’s roots are mediocre, paternal fraction is from a village farmer community while maternal fraction is of prominent dynasty. Yet, Buddhika’s journey through political pathway sans from family backing or power influence.
